Newton

Maybe it's because I am surrounded by physics nerds, but I can't help but notice the different ways that the physical laws and theories of our world can relate to the spiritual lives we lead.
Take for instance, Newton's second law:
Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
The obvious mathematical implication of this were related to us in middle school, with vectors and experiments and Mr. Wizard videos.  However, I am realizing more and more that this physical "law" applies to our lives as well.
We tend to live our lives in sort of linear progression, each of us following our own given vector, waiting on some outside force to change our direction.  And in the absence of any outside intervention, we simply maintain velocity and direction indefinitely.  It seems in life that our normal human tendency is the same as that of the particle - just to keep pressing forward in our present direction.
The implication of this tendency is the scary part.  How many of us will look back on our lives and wish we had changed our own direction?
In addition, many of us are fooled into confusing action with progression.  The particle or person that continues its path is moving, but toward where?  The question is not one of inaction, but of misdirection.
As humans in this physical existence, it is so easy to maintain the path and speed we are on, waiting for an outside force to impact us and force us toward a new and better path.  And so we must draw from our strength as spiritual beings if we desire to change the course of our lives.
